Paradise – Kay Ritchie

  1. This is a tremendous poem: such a pity that Derek Jarman is not alive to read it. It manages to be accessible to a wide range of readers but not banal. I liked particularly the alliteration, the extra resonance of including the precise names of the wild flowers and the romanticism countered by the more menacing imagery of the “Hiroshima” power station. Having seen the film of Jarman’s hut, all of these seem very appropriate.
